
Regarded by many as one the fiercest female warriors of Africa, Yaa Asantewaa was the Queen Mother of Ejisu in the Ashanti Empire, now part of modern-day Ghana. In 1900, she fought gallantly against the British in the War of the Golden Stool (aka Yaa Asantewaa War)
Yaa Asantewaa (c. 1840-1921) was a prominent figure in Ghanaian history and a fearless leader in the Ashanti resistance against British colonial rule. She is known for her role as the Queen mother of the Ejisu Kingdom in present-day Ghana. She famously served as the Commander-in-Chief of the Ashanti forces during the Ashanti War of 1900, also known as the Yaa Asantewaa War.
