This portrait of Frederick William (reign: 1640-1688), the Elector of Brandenburg and Duke of Prussia, was made by Gedeon Romandon, a Venice-born painter. Not much is known about Romandon’s early life other than the fact that he was the son of the French Huguenot painter Abraham Romandon.
